Introduction

The ACSESS Spring calendar included a series of key events including our Annual Meeting, the National Conference and Staffing for Canada Week; and it is my pleasure to  introduce the ACSESS 2022-23 National Board of Directors. Rita Sposato, COO of Randstad Canada, has assumed the National Presidency having held executive positions for the past four years and consistently demonstrated her commitment to promoting industry awareness and best practices. During Staffing for Canada Week celebrations, Rita took the opportunity to publish an article on our industry’s critical role in addressing Canada’s labor shortage challenges.

ACSESS 2022 Virtual conference had over 200 attendees. Appreciation is extended to sponsoring business partners who share their expertise with members and who contribute to the success of the staffing industry in Canada and worldwide. Be sure to save the date for ACSESS 2023 Conference at the Westin Calgary, May 10-12. We are all looking forward to getting back in person for a strong educational program and exciting social events. With that in mind, the team has also been busy organizing g in-person events in Montreal and Toronto. Stay tuned for more details. Additionally, our Chapters are working hard organizing events in each of their respective areas. A special thank you to all ACSESS volunteers for their time and effort in making these opportunities a success.

Since the release of our March 2022 newsletter, ACSESS has continued to make our industry's views known across a wide range of policy issues, representing members on several fronts including rate reform consultations, employment standards and monitoring and drafting licensing regulations. Of particular note, following the ACSESS role in consultations, are recent positive amendments to the license issued by Quebec’s Ministry of Labour (CNESST). These remove the requirement to renew on an annual basis, and  ease the administrative burden on industry employers. Our Ontario committee is also working closely with Ministry staff on the introduction of licensing requirements for staffing firms. The regulations will include new penalties on firms that violate basic safety and employment standards, posting of a surety bond and new vetting requirements prior to the issuance of a license.

On the government relations front ACSESS will continue to support and advocate for initiatives to ensure that all temporary help agencies (THAs) comply with their legal obligations. This creates a level playing field for ACSESS members and results in a fairer industry for THAs, their clients and assignment employees alike.

We will also continue our outreach to all provincial premiers to promote the value of the staffing services and recruitment industries in Canada and our members’ contributions to the economy.

Wishing you all a safe and happy summer, and thank you for your support.
