In this inaugural edition of ACSESS2Work, our quarterly newsletter update on all the areas of our service to you, we hope to provide you with a summary of the key items we are working on, Industry news, and upcoming events.
From June 6 to 12, the Association of Canadian Search, Employment & Staffing Services (ACSESS) and its 1,500 member offices celebrate Staffing for Canada Week to recognize the $15 billion industry’s more than 500,000 employees and the two million job seekers they place each year.
The ACSESS National Board includes representatives from throughout Canada, who serve for a two-year term and represent various industry sub-sectors, including professional search and placement agencies, temporary staffing, contract placements, multi-national firms and those serving niche markets.
Since our last report to members, ACSESS continued to make our industry's views known across a wide range of policy issues. We have represented members on several public policy fronts, including rate reform consultations, employment standards and federal procurement.
The employment services industry comprises employment placement agencies and executive search services, temporary help services, and professional employer organizations. In 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic led to business closures in all sectors, and the unemployment rate jumped to 9.5%, as 986,400 Canadians lost their jobs.
Statistics Canada released a new article which provides a snapshot of the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on some of the hardest hit service industries.
ACSESS is the ONLY association in Canada that serves the interests of the staffing and recruiting industry; lobbying for our members before governments, upholding ethical practices with the Code of Ethics and leading the way in best practices and health and safety education and performance.
